I bought a Nokia 7600. It's kind of a cool design, but the keys are not in a 10-key layout so it will take a bit of getting used to. You need to use the headphones if you don't want to look like a side talker, but the headphones are pretty cool. It isn't Symbian so I can't run my favorite applications on it. Having said that, it is refreshingly faster than the Nokia 6600. I tried the bluetooth gprs and it worked fine with my Mac. Unfortunately, there isn't a Mac profile for the phone yet so I can't seem to get it to sync with the address book. The main reason I bought this phone is because it does GSM as well as WCDMA. J-Phone/Vodaphone have rolled out WCDMA in Japan so I can use the phone in Japan. We don't have GSM so this is really the only way you can use GMS SIM cards in Japan.
Just today in class we were talking about globalization and how it has affected our lives. I told my instructor about the phone you gave me. I'm not sure whether to be surprised that you've bought yet another phone, but I should ask does it work with Cingular ;-)?

I didn't knew that W-CDMA was available in Japan -- I thought only FOMA... So, I can roam with every W-CDMA phone? Very cool!

Yes. J-Phone provides WCDMA roaming to it's roaming partners.
This phone does work on Cingular Jessica. Were you able to get the phone working?

Joi, you aren't roaming constantly then?
Or is there other ways of identifying you with a WCDMA network...

No, I wasn't able to get the phone working. It would only work with Cingular in NYC and San Fran. But I like the phone, so I'm going to switch carriers so it will work. I'm going to show it to my mom and I think she'll be jealous.

Okay I got it to work now!!! :-)

Any success using a Vodafone Japan USIM card with it?
I plan to pick up one of these for "testing" soon and would rather use my existing Vodafone Japan USIM card so I'm not hit with roaming charges in Japan.

Besides Vodafone Japan's USIM cards, you should also be able to use the 7600 in *some* areas in Tokyo.
The older blue-colored FOMA USIMs won't work; you'll need the newer green-colored SIM cards. Even with a green FOMA USIM card, you might experince some glitches if the SIM manufacturer is Gemplus. The 7600 works better with the more recent green-colored Dainippon USIM implementation.
Docomo have been quietly upgrading some of their FOMA base stations in Tokyo from the 3GPP '99 spec to the 3GPP 2000 spec. The Nokia 7600 will only be able to successfully handshake with these 2000-spec base stations.
YMMV ;-)

Oops, I meant "Besides Vodafone Japan's USIM cards, you should also be able to use the 7600 with a Docomo FOMA USIM card in *some* areas in Tokyo." Damn text editor.

I am diving into a more mobile work environment and am looking to pickup some of these great phones. Where does everyone pick them up? Surely Cingular in the US is not offering them.
Cheers,
Lon

Has anybody found a way to send a picture taken from this phone to an e-mail (I do not want to send it thru a multimedia message).
also, is there a MAC (OS X) somewhere that supports this phone for image / music transfers ?
Thx.
